It seemed logical that the first releases under the Eden Hall label were guided by the legendary James Irvine, working alongside his daughter Joanne. Aside from being friends and neighbours of David and Mardi Hall, their passion for the Eden Valley region is unsurpassed, their local knowledge invaluable and their winemaking talents recognised world wide, with Joanne winning the award as “Red Winemaker of the Year” at the 2006 London International Wine Challenge.
Christa Deans has always made the Eden Hall Riesling, initially engaged by the Irvines as a consultant, as Christa’s reputation as a world class wine maker of premium riesling wines has been acknowledged for years across the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Christa Deans understands the nuances of the fruit from our famed Avon Brae vineyard and the 2010 Riesling is a testament to the synergy that comes when great winemakers are able to work with outstanding fruit produced in an ideal vintage.
From the release of our 2009 red vintage wines our customers will see the influence of Kym Teusner as our new red wine maker. Kym Teusner is at the forefront of the “new” Barossa winemaking fraternity, producing striking red wines that clearly pay homage to their vineyard site and terrôir. Recognised as 2007 Qantas “Young Winemaker of the Year”, Kym Teusner brings an innovative approach to red wine making – based on lees aging, little racking, no fining or filtration and no new American oak – which will see an exciting new chapter written in the Eden Hall story.
